Celebrate Earth day
It's Earth Day today - a day to take a moment to remember how precious our particular spot on the planet is. We are proud to be one of many community groups across the country, and the world, taking climate action. The coast around Bude is vulnerable to sea-level rise and coastal erosion, what will you do to make sure we can preserve it for future generations? If you want to find out more about Earth Day head over to https://www.earthday.org/earth-day-2022/ Tags and Links #Do

Our Bude, our stories
Over the past year we’ve been gathering local memories to create a series of heartfelt and personal short films that explore what makes our community so special and consider how we might adapt to a changing climate. Join us to explore these themes in a fun and informal series of workshops. Based at Bude Golf Club, there's a set of three workshops from 11am-2pm on Monday 16th, 23rd and 30th May OR 11am-2pm on Monday 6th, 13th and 20th June. Lunch is included in this free event

Wrap up your bubbles
In the UK we throw away 226,800 miles of wrapping paper at Christmas, enough to encircle the world nine times. Make this Christmas the year you ditch this single-use, unnecessary item that uses energy to create and is often non-recyclable. Instead, rethink your wrapping solutions with some eco alternatives. Raiding the cupboards rather than buying new is the way forward – and it’s cheaper as well as greener. 1. If you're gifting a bottle, top it with a Santa hat made from old

1993 Flood Picture Request
Who can remember the floods in Bude in 1993? All was water from Nanny Moore's Bridge to The Falcon. Apparently, a bride and groom had to be ferried to their reception by rowing boat. 🤵👰🚣 Does anyone recall this - and more importantly, have photographs of that time? We're working on a project about memories of Bude and would love to include your images of the 1993 flood. Get out your albums and message us, tag friends and add below with any flood shots - thank you so much.

Freezey does it
If you have to make like Scott of the Antarctic to retrieve your frozen peas, then it’s time to defrost your freezer. Not only can you save up to £150 a year by regularly defrosting, it also makes your freezer more energy-efficient because it doesn’t have to work as hard. Lower your bills and lower your carbon footprint – it’s a win-win. What other kitchen tips have you discovered? Let us know with the hashtag #do1thing4Bude. #Do1thing4Bude #ClimateFundUK

Say no to plastic packaging
From shrink-wrapped broccoli to boxed-up berries, the fruit and veg in our supermarkets is usually covered in plastic. It’s time to take a (spinach) leaf out of France’s book - from January 1st 2022 all plastic packaging for fruit and vegetables weighing under 1.5kg will be banned. That will amount to a billion fewer units of plastic packaging each year. Over here, Morrisons is already taking baby steps with some of its bananas, pledging to replace plastic bags for paper band

Tree cheers
To celebrate the start of National Tree Week, we’re delighted to announce that Bude Climate Partnership has secured a donation of 200 trees from The National Lottery to be added to our partner 2 Minute Foundation’s pilot forest. They’ll be planted in a field 10 miles south of Bude. This is another great step towards our goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2030 because as well as being beautiful and great for hugging, trees also: 🌳 Absorb and store carbon dioxide from the atmo

Buy Nothing Day
It may be Black Friday but resist the urge to get out your credit card. There's a wonderfully simple alternative to Black Friday and it's environmentally friendly too. Support Buy Nothing Day instead. By taking a 24-hour detox from consumerism you save money and help reduce carbon emissions. What

We're in the news
So happy that we made the front cover of the Bude & Stratton Post. It's recognition that Bude cares about its community, its businesses and its coastline. It's all thanks to you lovely lot who came along to the Turn the Tide on Climate Change event at Crooklets Beach on November 6th. There's more community events in the pipeline - what would you like to get involved with? So delighted they used this gorgeous pic by Emily Barlow Photographer #inittowinit #togetherwerestronger

Look out for the stickers!
Look out for the stickers! Such a great idea - Bude area has so many wonderful food producers and sellers that need our support. And every penny they get boosts Bude’s economy so much more than chain stores do. We are really excited to launch a new scheme that aims to support local producers and independent retailers. Last year we, at Transition Bude, asked you what were your priorities and you told us buying local products was right up there. To make that goal as easy as
